About Masood H. Kafash

Dr. Kafash is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, registered Professional Engineer, Technical Auditor, Associate Vice President, and the Technical Practice Lead in AECOM’s DCS Mining Business Unit, with more than 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering consulting. His expertise centers on tailings and embankment dams and levees, with a proven track record in leading the design and analysis of both existing and new tailings storage facilities and dams. He has extensive experience in developing investigation and laboratory programs, material characterization, and performing advanced numerical analyses, including site response and liquefaction triggering assessments, soil–structure interaction (SSI), and two- and three-dimensional stability and seismic deformation modeling. He has also been responsible for the design of some of the largest tailings storage facilities in North America located in high seismicity regions
