About H Mason Hicks

After nearly nine years working in the Paris-based design firm AREP, the design station design and urban planning affiliate of the French National Railway (SNCF Group), I have returned to the U.S. and joined the Atlanta design firm, Robert and Company as Senior Architect and Project Manager. Having recently earned my California Architect’s License, I will continue in Architecture practice with the aim of building a bridge between the domains of Architecture and Urban Planning, and Transportation Planning. I want to build on what I have learned and observed at AREP so that the remainder of my career to be based on producing designs that truly move people; and for the long term, I hope to play a role in the introduction and development of a true continental high-speed rail network in the United States. I believe that America is on the cusp of starting to build great things again. Globally and historically, building new ways of moving people, both in stations and in infrastructure has repeatedly proven to be the best way to spur economic development. Rail transportation has always been my passion. Beyond passion, I believe that the tired notion that merely adding pavement is a viable solution to our mobility woes is becoming universally understood as a complete fallacy. Members of the traveling public not so emotionally moved as I, by riding rapidly on steel wheels, rolling on steel rails are also growing tired of being forced to remove their shoes for reasons other than to relax their feet. I believe that Americans are awakening to the notion that as our politicians continue to listen to those who fear change declare to us what we cannot do, we are being surpassed by the rest of the world in their doing what is possible. It is time for our great nation to DO again; to BUILD again, and to LEAD again. I sincerely believe that we will move again, and I want very much to be a part of this mobility revolution.
