Performs comprehensive public policy analysis including research, planning, and evaluation to determine impacts on people with disabilities. Assists in communications on the Council’s policy positions to the Legislature, other advocates, and the public. Supports the Council, its partners, and other advocates in public policy and legislative advocacy activities.Key Responsibilities: Identify and monitor state and federal policy and legislation related to council prioritiesProvide input in the development and implementation of laws, regulations, and public policies that impact people with developmental disabilitiesResearch, analyze and evaluate public policies to determine impacts on people with developmental disabilitiesSummarize complex issues and data by developing fact sheets, issue briefs, advocacy alerts and calls to action, public comments, and position statementsClearly communicate the council’s policy positions to stakeholders, state legislators, other disability organizations, and the publicCoordinate policy advocacy efforts and strategies within the organization and with partnering organizations and stakeholdersProvide education on disability and policy issuesIdentify advocacy opportunities and promote participation of advocates in workgroups and linking people with developmental disabilities and families with policymakersConduct training on public policy issues and legislative processesNavigate the state legislative process and assist individuals with disabilities and families to provide meaningful influence on given policy issuesAttend Council meetings and provide support as needed
