About Maryjane Lacoste
Maryjane Lacoste, MA is a senior global health leader with over 25 years of developing, leading, and managing evidence-based portfolios and high performing teams across diverse organizations (NGO, donor, corporate, public- and private-sector) on 3 continents. She has expertise in health systems strengthening, quality of care, and product and innovation introduction and scale, delivering projects in women and child health (including family planning (FP), maternal and newborn health (MNH), and cervical cancer prevention and treatment (CCPT)), HIV prevention, and infection prevention (IP). Ms. Lacoste was the Gates Foundation lead for the global Implant Access Program. She coordinated government, donor and manufacturer inputs and investments across 69 LMICs under FP2020 to expand FP choice, resulting in doubling of global contraceptive implant procurement over the 6-year period and US$500 million in procurement savings for donors and governments. There were also statistically significant increases in implant use and implant share of the method mix, as well as development of global structures for broader donor coordination. Since 2018, Maryjane has replicated similar efforts, working with governments in 30+ countries, donors, and manufacturers, to introduce and scale up DMPA-SC, a subcutaneous self-injectable contraceptive, with procurement volumes nearly tripling over 2 years. She led Jhpiego’s Tanzania office as Country Director (20••••14) and grew the USAID-funded $4M annual antenatal care program with 13 staff to a multi-faceted technical portfolio including FP, MNH, CCPT, IP and HIV prevention with a multi-donor $25M+ annual budget and almost 200 staff. Maryjane has long-term experience in Tanzania, Malawi, and Indonesia, and has provided significant periods of short-term technical assistance to Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and India. She brings an extensive network of colleagues across multiple LMIC governments, multi- and bi-lateral funders, manufacturers, and foundations, and has presented and spoken at multiple international and national conferences. She speaks and writes French fluently.
