About Marybeth Ketko

I initially obtained my aspiration to become part of the scientific world when I worked in the chemical laboratories at Schoolcraft Community College. It is there I obtained my base knowledge of chemicals and safety within the laboratory.As an undergraduate, at Wayne State University, I spent most of my study doing research, both experimental and theoretical. After spending 1 year in organic synthesis research, I have obtained knowledge of proper chemical separation processes via distillation or through column chromatography. I managed to obtain experience applying NMR in order to examine the structure of the product from a reaction and obtained background with both air sensitive and non-air sensitive reactions. The research also helped further my knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms behind chemical reactions.The last three years of my undergraduate career, I had spent learning, understanding and implementing the logic of force field development through computer simulation. I had done an extensive study on the thermodynamic properties, as affected due to partial charge variation, of Dimethyl Ether including the vapor-liquid phase equilibria, vapor pressure, heat of vaporization, dipole moment as a function of accentric factor and radial distribution functions. Since then, many efforts have been put forth towards binding energetics for azeotropic systems such as dimethyl ether + sulphur dioxide, methanol + diethylamine and methanol + chloroform. I also have been developing and analyzing the vapor-liquid coexistent curves and vapor pressures for newly developed explosives for which very little, if any, experimental data exists.I embraced the challenges of my role at MacDermid Enthone with a genuine enthusiasm and passion. Each day presented a new goal to obtain and customer satisfaction and data accuracy is the key to success within this establishment. MacDermid Ethone broaden my experience from the lab into the field and allowed me to grow into roles for which I did not imagine were possible for me. I entered the world of sales and marketing and found great pleasure in aiding customer and OEM’s from a different perspective. From MacDermid Enthone, I moved on into actual production to see how the production dynamics tied everything together at Tribar Manufacturing. It was at Tribar that I realized how much I enjoyed and desired to continue to pursue business development versus working more on the inside.
