ABOUT MARY-JANE HARDING
I am a forensic specialist in the recovery of human remains from fire. My primary field of research throughout my post graduate academic career, is Fire Investigation, specialising in fatal fires and thermally induced changes to the human body. My PhD research was titled \'Investigating Fatal Fires: Understanding Thermal Alteration to the Human Body. With an academic attachment to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, and my PhD Researcher position, I am in the unique position of being able to apply real case experience to my research.I obtained my MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology at Cranfield University, with my research focused on the differentials between fleshed and de fleshed remains in open combustion which was awarded the Cranfield Distinction Prize. My background is in Archaeology and Anthropology. I graduated from Bristol University (BA Hons) with my research focused on the study and analysis of pre-adolescent burials, and how they can enhance our understanding of the transition from Late Pre-Roman Iron Age into Romano-British Society.Over the past 8 years I have been involved in various archaeological projects, including the excavation of human remains.
