ABOUT MARY FISHER

I’m a landscape architect with more than 20 years’ experience, including in senior management roles. I work primarily as an expert in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and visualisation - both undertaking assessments and acting as an expert witness.I am proud to have contributed to mitigating climate change by working on many onshore wind projects, as well as solar farms, grid connections and offshore wind projects - weathering the ups and downs of the UK renewables industry. I\'m currently a member of Scottish Renewables\' Onshore Wind Policy Group - helping to shape the industry response to evolving policy.I have also applied my expertise to a wide range of projects both large and small, including housing, commercial developments, a range of major infrastructure projects; tall buildings in urban areas and more unusual projects such as the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture in the Olympic Park. LVIA and appeals form an important part of my work but I also advise on feasibility and design, provide masterplanning advice for housing, and assist local authorities with plan-making. I contribute to Landscape Institute guidance on a regular basis - drawing in my expertise in LVIA and visualisation techniques and am currently a member of the LI GLVIA Advisory Panel - working to improve guidance and practice of LVIA.I also co-ordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and have authored IEMA guidance on integrating EIA and design.My scientific education and former career in computer systems design and management consulting remain very relevant and bring an unusual perspective for a landscape architect. It enables technological innovation, and the ability to deal with complexity, yet also step back from the detail and consider what matters in the bigger picture.
