ABOUT MARY ANN MALKOS

My name is Mary Ann Malkos, and I’m currently a Teacher On Special Assignment for the Milpitas School District. I have been coaching and providing professional development trainings for teachers for the past 9 years. During this time, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to receive training from the National Equity Project, The Art of Coaching with Elena Aguilar, and Various Designated/Integrated EL trainings at Santa Clara County Office of Ed. I have a great passion for literacy and helping students and parents see the changes they desire for their children to become proficient readers. As a Literacy Specialist at Weller Elementary for 3 years, I learned how to work with struggling readers, with their teachers, and with their families to help them learn to love reading. We were able to see the reading gains our students needed to see to be successful. Working closely with Matt Duffy, our former Assistant Superintendent of Schools and currently with Norma Rodriguez our current Assistant Superintendent, I have learned gained many useful leadership skills that could be used to benefit any organization. I have a B.A. in Education from Illinois State University and an MFA in Writing from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I have been in the California public school system as a teacher and coach for 20 years. I having worked in diverse districts such as Sunnyvale, Berkeley, and Milpitas.
