MJ Cabotaje serves as an assistant athletic trainer on the University of Dayton Sports Medicine Staff, supporting student-athletes across men’s soccer, women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country, and formerly women’s rowing. He applies a range of manual therapy techniques—including IASTM and dry needling—as effective adjuncts to joint mobilizations and corrective exercise, contributing to well-rounded and individualized plans of care.His clinical interests also include active release technique, cupping therapy, therapeutic modalities, and blood flow restriction training. MJ holds certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), EXOS Performance Specialist, and manual therapy certifications from the Institute of Athletic Regeneration (IAR), the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy (AAMT), and Foundations of Joint Manipulation (JMN1). He has additionally completed coursework in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy and the Postural Restoration Institute.Prior to joining the University of Dayton, MJ developed his athletic training and sports medicine expertise at the professional level with the New York Jets, D.C. Defenders, Washington Spirit, and D.C.
