ABOUT MARTYN STENTON
I am Director of Children and Young People’s Services at Calderdale Council in West Yorkshire. My role includes a focus on improving children and young people’s lives in the area, supporting our priority to reduce inequalities and our Vision 34 aim where everyone will have hope and opportunity to live a larger life. I previously worked at Durham County Council, where I spent time as Deputy Director and managed a range of services covering Family Hubs and Early Help, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Inclusion, Youth Justice and specialist children’s home provision for young people with complex care needs. With a solid background in local government much of my earlier career was in West Yorkshire. It began at Wakefield MDC and extended through a range of roles over 17 years at Leeds City Council. I played a pivotal role in the Leeds Family Valued Programme, leading significant investments in restorative practices and establishing the UK’s largest Family Group Conferencing service. These efforts led to substantial and sustained reductions in the need for children to be looked after.
