ABOUT MARTYN DROGAN
GE Energy Power Conversion is a world leading manufacturer of multi megawatt motors and generators. My role developed from working within the R&D department on NPI (new product introductions), to my current role within the engineering team. This latest role involves offering support with material selection, materials standards development and new material testing. As a consultant to colleagues within the engineering team, I am relied on for making critical decisions relating to materials.Key areas of knowledge include metals, composites, high voltage insulation and coatings commonly used within motors and generators and general engineering/production. In the last 7 years I have been heavily involved in continued development of insulation materials and manufacturing practices. My responsibilities also include support to production engineering, ensuring any changes to manufacturing processes meet engineering requirements and to exacting standards. As there is an ever increasing pressure on reducing costs associated with manufacturing rotating machines, I have applied cost savings through carefully considered use of materials. I have been involved in transferring technologies to manufacturing facilities in China, Brazil and France. This on all occasions required working on site in foreign countries to ensure the design intent has been fully understood and implemented.Being responsible for engineering materials, I also have experience of developing suppliers to ensure all critical standards are met. Once again this has involved Being responsible for engineering materials, I also have experience of developing suppliers to ensure all critical standards are met and best cost country materials successfully employed in manufacture in the UK. Once again this has involved international travel to a range of suppliers to ensure production processes meet the required standards and expectations.
