About Marty Kooistra
Marty Kooistra is the network weaver with Civic Commons currently directing the Comprehensive and Scalable Starter Home Production Implementation for WA state and the Black Home Initiative. He is a champion of coalition-based work at the intersection of community development, equity, and affordable housing. An avid practitioner of network leadership, his efforts have advanced homebuyer financial readiness, subsidy & financial sustainability policies, the rehabilitation and preservation of foreclosed and distressed properties, and the design & development of affordable high-performance housing. Marty was honored to serve as executive director and board president of the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County where he formed several coalitions and networks including Seattle for Everyone. He held several leadership roles with Habitat for Humanity locally, nationally, and globally including CEO of the Seattle-King County affiliate. He co-chairs the University of Washington’s West Coast Poverty Center Housing Roundtable and served as a board member of Global Washington. Previous appointments include King County’s All Home coordinating board, PSRC\'s Growth Management Policy Board, NACEDA Board of Directors, the City of Seattle’s HALA committee, the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program, the Federal Home Loan Bank’s advisory council, and Global Green’s new market tax credit advisory committee. Marty has a BS in Social Work & Political Science and was awarded a Bush Foundation fellowship for study at the Joint Center for Housing at Harvard University.
