About Martin Cleary
Having started, run, and finally sold company with annual sales of $21m to Brightview in 2018, my leadership experience is extensive and relevant to a business owner looking to grow or sell. I am a firm believer in taking a systematic approach to a service business. We were able to motivate the right people (200+) in the right structure with the right tools to consistently deliver excellence. This formula was the basis for our success. I\'m helping horticulture students gain an understanding of how to find success in the landscape industry. Having technical skills is required but understanding how to deliver excellent service means the difference between success and failure. I enjoy the process of teaching. Merritt College has given me the chance to teach the Business of Landscaping class. Set up as a seminar series, I prepare the students to take a thoughtful approach to the most important segments of a typical green industry business. It\'s valuable information that will set owners or key managers up for success in a wonderful industry. There\'s more to it than plants. Again, the teaching process. As an avid fly fisherman for 30 years, I\'ve started a licensed and insured guiding business on the North Fork Yuba River- my home water. Sharing the joy of fly fishing in the most beautiful watershed in Northern California is a dream job. As time and covenants permit, I\'ll consider options to collaborate on other ventures.
