ABOUT MARTIN VICKERS

I am an IT professional, data scientist and system administrator focusing on research computing for over fifteen years. With a PhD in Planetary Physics and a MSc in Remote Sensing underpinned by a Computer Science BSc, I have applied computational resources and methods to a variety of research disciplines, most recently in the field of bioinformatics at the John Innes Centre. I\'ve procured, built and managed High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, storage and virtualisation infrastructure and acted as a consultant for several research institutions in their infrastructure needs. I\'ve worked on a variety of research projects, authored several high profile papers which have been cited widely and write open source software for the bioinformatics community. In my free time I enjoy hiking, SCUBA diving, general computer geekery and building things.
