ABOUT MARTIN EDWARDS
I am a barrister at Cornerstone Barristers. I originally qualified as a solicitor and worked in both the public and private sectors, eventually becoming a partner in a major international law firm. In 1995 I was called to the Bar and since then I have been fortunate to have appeared in a number of leading cases in my field. I handle all aspects of planning, development and environmental law involving a wide range of issues associated with the ownership, development and use of land. Nowadays, advocacy is not just for the court room or inquiry. It starts with the written word, be it a formal Advice or Opinion or drafting representations or correspondence. More importantly, as the courts are becoming ever more hostile and the appeals process more unpredictable than ever, I see my role principally as helping clients steer clear of the courts and inquiries whenever possible. I am always willing to attend meetings with clients. Those clients include developers (both big and small), property investors, local planning authorities and landowners. I am particularly concerned with the issues facing small and medium sized housebuilders who often face a disproportionate burden when dealing with the planning system. In addition, I wrote for the Estates Gazette on planning, environmental and other related areas of law for thirty years and am a case commentator for the Journal of Planning and Environmental Law. In response to requests from readers, I have re-fashioned my Planning Notes column as a blog at https://planninglawmatters.wordpress.com. I am an elected member of the RTPI General Assembly. If you would like more information about my practice please see my profile on the Cornerstone Barristers website. Better still, why not pick up the phone and give me a call in chambers or send me an email or simply connect via LinkedIn. Also do feel free to comment on any of my posts.
