ABOUT MARTIN COURTNEY

I\'m a freelance IT & telecoms editor, journalist and analyst with 30 years experience in B2B/B2C publishing. I specialise in producing content for a variety of formats - print, online and digital - writing, commissioning, editing and subbing as required, honing sponsor expectations and liaising with production staff to ensure a high quality finished product that passes muster with all concerned. My last job was Commercial Editor at Situation Publishing, responsible for orchestrating sponsored content including features, white papers, blogs, reviews and infographics on web sites including The Register, Blocks and Files and The Next Platform. Previous roles included writing regular blogs for payment service provider DOCOMO Digital and wholesale broadband provider CityFibre, having produced simlar content for ICT systems integrator Axians UK between 2015 and 2018. I also compiled regular survey reports, white papers, infographics and video scripts for IDG Connect (now Foundry), the global lead generation division of International Data Group, between 2012 and 2019.At the certain risk of overlooking more of my past and present freelance employers as a journalist the ones that stick in my mind by virtue of volume or recency are Computer Active, Computer Reseller News (CRN), DatacenterDynamics, Engineering and Technology Magazine, European Tool and Mould Making (ETMM - yes that exists, or used to), IFSEC Global, Mobile Today and Air Ground Services Magazine.I worked part time as a principal analyst for TechMarketView (see below) from 2016 to 2022, with previous analyst work including three years writing market intelligence reports on the telecoms industry for independent research consultancy Market Mettle. These were roles which primarily involved gathering insight on company performance and strategy through executive interviews and attendance of relevant industry events, compiling market forecast reports and revenue estimates, and delivering the odd presentation. I also compiled research papers for Heavy Reading and completed a temporary six month contract tracking mobile operators for Current Analysis.You might not believe it but I was the race director responsible for organising and coordinating the nationally celebrated Ely Runners New Years Eve 10K in 2013. I still run, though not as fast as I used to, now mixing it up with the gentler pursuits of swimming and cycling which I often combine into a triathlon if I have the time to put in the training hours.
