About Mark Yang
Hello, my name is Mark Yang. I am a junior currently attending Purdue University in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Management. Currently, I am finishing up my second co-op with GE Appliances as a New Product Introduction Engineer on the Cooking Systems team. My main project was to develop a new feature for ovens to be able to recognize food items that consumers may insert, and output respective responses of suggestions for how to cook them. Throughout this process, I utilized my skills in Python and prior knowledge of Raspberry Pi’s to set up a virtual connection to the testing ovens for a more efficient image data collection process. In addition, I have gained more experience in IP generation, improved my abilities in coding, and further deepened my knowledge of machine learning through coming up with my own project of scale estimation methods for utilizing a single camera. Previously at GE Appliances, I was a General Systems Engineer on the Wash Systems team. My main responsibility was to develop washer algorithms for estimating the amount of clothes in washers in order to improve energy efficiency. This process required an extensive amount of tests of over a thousand and excellent consistencies for each one, in which I was able to achieve and later on overlooked the entire process until production. I am seeking an internship for the summer of 2025 to further develop my skills in engineering and working as a team.

Utilized previous knowledge in Raspberry Pi\'s to set up a virtual remote environment through RealVnc and WinSCP to connect to several products for data gathering and information management. • Remodeled a cooktop center measuring device to have a stronger structural integrity by reducing max stress by over two times of the original version.• Developed python scripts with GUI to simplify the process of oven camera image data collection, and for error corrections and making the implementation process more streamlined. Set up over a dozen of Pi\'s for oven camera project.• Utilized Confluence for data organization and translation from image information to text information.• Worked on two personal IP projects to develop a method for scale estimation of food items and rack positions in the oven with the limitation of using one single camera.
