ABOUT MARK ROACH

I’m a seasoned disability operations executive and award-winning workplace mental health advocate, recognized for leadership in psychological health and safety, culture, and engagement. As an out member of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, I’m driven to create inclusive workplaces where everyone feels safe and valued. My career began as a registered nurse, evolving into case management and rehab consulting to support clients recovering from traumatic injury or illness. I’ve consistently leveraged clinical insight and human-centered leadership to build meaningful connections and drive business outcomes. At Sun Life, I led the development of its regional disability brand in Western Canada, scaling the team from 70 to 160+. I championed diversity and inclusion through initiatives like the People Program and DiverseAbility network, influencing policy and culture to better support underrepresented communities. I built a national team of mental health experts, strengthened client relationships, and drove education on workplace mental health—earning Sun Life repeated recognition from Canadian HR Reporter and a CEO Award for my contributions. Now, as Vice President, Psychological Injury & Continuous Improvement at WCB Nova Scotia, I lead the service offering for workers who have sustained workplace psychological injuries, driving operational excellence and fostering a culture of client-focused innovation. My work emphasizes structured methodologies, data-driven insights, and continuous improvement to enhance service delivery and safe, sustainable return-to-work outcomes. I collaborate with stakeholders and healthcare partners to champion psychologically safe workplaces and advance the future of injury and disability risk management. Volunteer Community Work Beyond my professional role, I’m proud to volunteer with Unsinkable, a mental health organization that amplifies lived experience through storytelling at work. Supporting this community allows me to connect with individuals navigating adversity, and to help foster resilience, empathy, and hope—values that guide both my personal and professional life.
