ABOUT MARK PIERSCIANOWSKI
I have been very lucky over the years to have found myself in some really interesting jobs that have exposed me to some incredibly important things in my life. My first job was in the produce section of the grocery store Farm Boy. I didn\'t know it then, but I would end up using a lot of the food knowledge that I gained there to develop my cooking skills. I also worked at a beach for a summer as \"beach operations staff\" between my first and second year of university. Sure, I cleaned bathrooms and set up volleyball nets, but I also worked with an incredible team of lifeguards who I had the best time working with and was able to learn a lot about health & safety from. I ended up continuing with this interest while working in future jobs, including an internship at the Ontario Ministry of Labour. One of my most impactful jobs, though, was when I started as a cast member at Cineplex Odeon South Keys in Ottawa in 2009. It was a part-time job where I got to work with most of my friends, see free movies, and learn all kinds of cool things. I\'ve always enjoyed movies, but I fell in love with movies and the movie-going experience in these years and wanted to find a way to make it a career. I worked in theatres for 9 years, eventually becoming a manager, projection support manager, trainer, and learning as much as I could. In 2018, I left to go back to school to build up some skills, knowing I would be back. I got a diploma in marketing, and graduated at the very start of the COVID pandemic, so movies weren\'t exactly hot. I started working in e-commerce, supporting small businesses. I worked with restaurants, music stores, clothing shops, knitting pattern designers, beauticians, every kind of small business you can imagine, and learned A LOT from each one, but I always wanted to get back.In 2023, I got the opportunity to rejoin the team at Cineplex, but this time in Event Cinema. It had always been a fascinating area to me. There were so many possibilities! It wasn\'t just movies, but it was making concerts, operas, live theatre, and much more accessible to wider audiences. I didn\'t just have the opportunity to work with movies, I\'ve had the opportunity to learn about all kinds of things that I wouldn\'t have otherwise explored, like K-pop, anime, international films, and all kinds of new music. In all my jobs, I\'ve found a few key themes:1. Work is always better when you get to work with incredible people who support each other.2. If you aren\'t learning something new in your job, what is the point?3. It doesn\'t hurt to find something you love in your work.
