About Mark Meatto

Mark Meatto is a documentary filmmaker and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently serving as creative executive at Words + Pictures where he works across a number of premium documentaries from development to completion (\"Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,\" EP;\"Ayenda,\" EP;\"The Yankees Win,\" Producer;\"Giannis: The Marvelous Journey,\" Story Producer). Meatto fell in love with filmmaking apprenticing under direct cinema legend Ricky Leacock and personal documentary pioneer Ross McElwee. Together with McElwee, he edited McElwee’s award-winning \"Bright Leaves\" —which premiered at Cannes, and was recognized with multiple year end distinctions including National Society of Film Critics “Best Non-Fiction Film” of 2005. Today, McElwee and Meatto run Little Field Films, which manages McElwee’s prior works and is producing his forthcoming documentary \"Remake.\" Meatto directed, photographed, edited, and produced \"How to Grow a Band\" —a feature length documentary about mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile launching his band Punch Brothers. The film was a New York Magazine Critics’ Pick that Variety called “fascinating” and “quite funny.as it tactfully charts the kind of artistic and philosophical differences that can undermine any group endeavor.” Meatto has performed a variety of roles on a number of independent documentaries that have screened and aired around the world to wide acclaim. He served as consulting editor on Gretchen Hildebrand and Vivian Vazquez’s \"Decade of Fire,\" Ben Niles’ \"Note By Note: The Making of Steinway L-1037,\" Brian Palmer’s \"Full Disclosure,\" and Jeremy Robins’ \"The Other Side of the Water.\" He shot scenes for Alex Olch’s \"The Windmill Movie\" and Nina Davenport’s \"First Comes Love,\" and producerd Bruce Twickler’s \"Damrell’s Fire.\" Earlier in his career, he served as an Assistant Editor for award-winning filmmakers Robert Gardner, Robb Moss, and Nina Davenport.
