Mark McCans focuses on all aspects of technology law, outsourcing, electronic commerce and licensing.Mark obtained his LL.M. degree from the University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley), where he specialized in technology contracting and open-source licensing. Prior to that, he obtained his LL.B. degree from the University of Ottawa and his bachelor of applied science for engineering degree from the University of Waterloo, majoring in mechanical engineering.After obtaining his engineering degree, Mark worked as a product manager and software developer for a number of years before attending law school. While at the University of Ottawa, he conducted extensive legal research for a number of professors and worked at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) on projects related to online contracting and digital rights management. While at UC Berkeley, Mark worked at the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic on projects related to copyright law, privacy and online defamation.Mark is a past Chair of the Toronto Computer Lawyers\' Group. Mark has also been the co-chair of the Outsourcing Ad Hoc Committee of the Canadian IT Law Association (IT.Can), a member of the IT.Can Planning Committee, a member of the executive of the Information Technology and E-Commerce Section of the Ontario Bar Association, a member of the Toronto Intellectual Property Group and a regular contributor to the Laws of.Com E-Business, Privacy & Technology Law Journal.Specialties: Outsourcing, open source licensing, software licensing and commercial transactions.
