ABOUT MARK RUTLEDGE
As a multidisciplinary creative and Indigenous design advocate, I use visual storytelling as a tool for justice, healing, and empowerment. My work spans brand identity, illustration, digital design, and cultural consultation—always rooted in respect, representation, and community. In my new role I serve as the Creative Specialist at the Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice, a national not-for-profit organization that centers the lived experiences of Indigenous women, men, and gender-diverse people who have survived reproductive and obstetric violence, including forced and coerced sterilization. Our mandate is to support survivors and advocate for reproductive justice across First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in Canada.Through this work, I help shape visual narratives that honour survivor stories, support healing initiatives, and challenge colonial systems. From developing culturally grounded design assets to contributing to national campaigns and registries, I strive to make design a force for human rights and community transformation.I hold accreditations as a Registered Graphic Designer (RGD) and as a Certified Design Professional (CDP), and I’ve studied at MIT Sloan School of Management, blending strategic thinking with creative execution. My mission is to dismantle design tropes that tokenize Indigenous identity and instead foster design practices that honour sovereignty, tradition, and innovation.Whether I’m crafting a visual identity, leading a workshop, or advocating for ethical design standards, I aim to amplify voices that have long been underrepresented in the design world.
