About Mark Harris

Over the span of my 35 years as a practicing Structural Engineer I have experienced amazing changes in the industry. When I entered the profession CAD was in its infancy and many of our projects were still being produced with pen on mylar. Computers were just coming into practical use. Our office had two Apple Macintosh computers to share, and if you wanted to run serious structural analysis you had to build an input file and run it on the mainframe at the University of Utah. Now that level of computing power resides in my pocket on an I phone!The technological advances have been staggering, Building information Modeling, Finite Element Analysis, Non-linear analytical approaches, and more coming every year. It has been a wild ride.I have had the opportunity to be a part of some amazing projects including performing arts venues such as the Eccles Broadway theater, civic projects including the Orrin Hatch US District Courts, and multiple healthcare, K12, and higher Ed projects. These are projects that I am very proud of and that have made the communities where they were built more vibrant.Helping architects bring these grand buildings from concept to reality is a passion and a pleasure.
