ABOUT MARK FALEY
Most enterprise AI pilots I see in UK commercial sales are solving the wrong problem.Teams automate lead scoring, generate slicker email sequences, build copilots for reps — and pipeline barely moves. The bottleneck was never speed at the top of the funnel. It was the messy middle: forecasting built on hope, account plans that live in slides nobody opens, and CRM data so unreliable that the AI built on top of it just hallucinates with more confidence. That’s the problem I spend my time on.I’m Director of Solution Engineering for Salesforce’s UK Commercial business. My team and I work with revenue leaders — CROs, VPs of Sales, Chief Customer Officers — who’ve already bought the platforms, run the pilots, and are now under pressure to show the board something real.A few things I’ve learned the hard way: • The companies getting genuine returns from AI in sales aren’t the ones with the biggest models. They’re the ones who fixed their data and process discipline first, then layered AI on top. The order matters. • “Single view of the customer” is a 15-year-old promise that most enterprises still haven’t delivered. The ones that do see it show up in forecast accuracy within two quarters. • Solution Engineering done well isn’t a demo function. It’s the bridge between what the buyer says they want and what will actually move their numbers — and that’s where most deals are quietly won or lost.A snapshot of the last 12 months: built the GB Solution Engineering team from scratch to 10 people, supported £25M+ in ACV, and spent a lot of time in rooms with CIOs and CROs trying to separate the AI signal from the noise. If you’re a UK revenue or technology leader trying to work out which AI investments will actually move pipeline next year — and which are expensive theatre — send me a DM. Happy to share what I’m seeing work (and not work) across the market right now.
