Mark Brodeur brings over 45 years of transformative urban planning/economic development and design leadership, with a track record of revitalizing more than 200 downtowns, corridors, and historic neighborhoods across the U.S. From his first post as Assistant Planning Director in 1979 to his current work in South Carolina, Mark has consistently led projects that balance vision, community values, and implementation.His leadership style is collaborative and grounded—Mark walks the blocks, listens to stakeholders, and works side-by-side with teams to craft creative, workable solutions. With deep experience in both public and private sectors, he bridges policy with design, always focused on place-based economic sustainability. His passion for urban revitalization is evident in the many long-range plans and design frameworks he\'s led, including award-winning projects in Coronado and Encinitas, both named “Great American Main Streets.”Mark is an expert in the Main Street Approach and a strong advocate for design-based economic development. His specialties include downtown specific plans, form-based codes, historic design guidelines, and zoning strategies that respect and enhance community identity. He’s also nominated 43 buildings to the National Register of Historic Places.Above all, Mark brings vision, experience, and a contagious optimism.
