ABOUT MARK J. BALLAM

I recently retired from San Diego State University, where I served as Managing Director of the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business in the Fowler College of Business. In this role, I led strategic planning, budgeting, and external engagement, and managed a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Education CIBER grant—my fifth, and SDSU’s eighth overall under this prestigious program.Over nearly two decades at SDSU, I worked to strengthen the university’s global footprint by supporting and expanding its nationally ranked International Business program and securing more than $10 million in external funding for international initiatives. Prior to joining SDSU in 2005, I held administrative roles at Georgia Tech and built a successful career in the banking industry.I currently serve as President of the Board of Directors for the San Diego Diplomacy Council and have held national leadership roles with organizations such as the Association of International Business Education and Research (AIBER), the National Association of District Export Councils (NADEC), the San Diego and Imperial District Export Council, and SDSU’s International Affairs Council. My passion for the San Diego Diplomacy Council is rooted in a lifelong belief in the power of citizen diplomacy to foster global understanding, collaboration, and peace.
