About Mark Wayne
Mark was brought up in an entrepreneurial family where payrolls and business expenses were everyday dinner-table topics and entrepreneurism was a family tradition. He founded Freedom One in 1988 to provide excellence in the servicing of corporate retirement plans. FO emerged as Michigan\'s largest independent 401(k) providers. In 2012, Mark was approached by CAPTRUST to purchase FO. CAPTRUST saw the value of how FO had “institutionalized” the delivery of a world class 401(k) plan & wanted to integrated these philosophies into their service model. CAPTRUST purchased FO, which was their largest acquisition at the time. The combined company had over $300 billion of assets & was one of the country\'s largest retirement plan consultants. After ensuring a successful transition for his team & clients, and after 25 years, Mark retired from the retirement plan industry. After being a 25 year entrepreneur, he missed the quick decision making and fast-paced environment of a new startup company. In 2014 he made the largest investment at the time of Dogtopia dog daycare franchises & began helping Dogtopia build a national brand. After 8 yrs of helping lead Dogtopia to become the fastest growing pet franchise in the country an existing franchise purchased Mark\'s locations in early 2022. Several years earlier, Mark\'s son had started a real estate development business. Mark followed his son and joined Detroit Riverside Capital. Today the company is building and managing multifamily projects with nearly 500 units in SE Michigan.Mark attended Oakland Univ, Oxford (England), and Harvard University before graduating from the University of Michigan. Mark has been recognized by Corp Magazine as an “Entrepreneur of Distinction”, by Plan Sponsor Magazine as “one of the Nation’s Top Retirement Plan Advisers” & is an honoree of Crain’s Detroit Business’ annual “40 under 40” award. Past president of the Michigan Delta Foundation, at the University of Michigan, past board member of; Clarkston State Bank, The Young Presidents Organization (YPO), the Council for Independent Record-keepers & The National Association of Plan Advisers. Mark served on the advisory boards for Fidelity and SunGard, a $4 billion technology provider, lobbied in Washington, meeting with law makers & congressional staffers, and testified in front of senate sub-committees and is a regular speaker and has authored articles for many retirement, investment and banking industry publications. Mark lives in Bloomfield Hills, MI, with Kerri, his wife of 32 years and 3 children, Karley, Michael & Mia.
