ABOUT MARK SPEAKMAN
Mark graduated from Charing Cross Medical School, London in 1978. He completed an MRC Research Fellowship with Prof Alison Brading and Mr Joe Smith in Oxford into the smooth muscle physiology of the obstructed bladder and awarded the MS degree from the University of London in 1988. He was appointed Consultant Urologist in Taunton in 1990. He has undertaken research and published over 100 papers on smooth muscle physiology, prostate and bladder diseases, male erectile dysfunction and QoL. assessment. He has written 6 book chapters and authored one urological book. He has lectured around the world in all 5 continents in over 50 cities. He has supervised post-graduate students through MD, MS and PhD degrees over the last 20 years in a wide variety of urological subjects. In Taunton he has been Clinical Director for Surgery, Director of Research & Development and Associate Medical Director. Mark has been a Council Member of BAUS, Honorary Treasurer, Vice-President 20•••••14 and President of BAUS 20••••16. He is on the Editorial Committee of the BJUI. He is a specialist advisor to NICE, and a member of the Research Panel of Th e Urology Foundation. Surprisingly, Mark does have some spare time and is a devoted fan of Bolton Wanderers’ FC. His other passions include tennis, road cycling and skiing, and he also knows a thing or two about fine wine!
