ABOUT MARK SMITH

I am a Chartered Engineer and Chief Operating Officer with over 35 years of experience in the building services industry, operating in a global role across the UK, Europe, Middle East and international markets, including 25 years in the Data Centre sector. I am actively client‑facing and maintain direct engagement with key clients, our multidisciplinary delivery partners and stakeholders at senior level.An engineer at heart, I have worked across most delivery and leadership roles within a traditional MEP consultancy, giving me a deep, practical understanding of how professional services businesses operate—from technical delivery and project leadership through to commercial management and executive governance. I continue to enjoy leading engineers and engineering‑led organisations, particularly in complex, mission‑critical environments.I bring a strong growth mindset and have been a catalyst for business expansion, playing a central role in scaling the organisation from 180 to people over an 11‑year period. This growth has included hands‑on involvement in acquisitions and integration, most notably leading the integration of Callaghan Engineering into RED, as well as supporting the growth and maturation of our global engineering centre in the Philippines. In 2024, I also acted as Interim CEO, providing leadership continuity and strategic direction during a period of transition.My leadership focus is on translating strategy into execution, strengthening operational performance, and building resilient, high‑performing organisations capable of sustainable growth at global scale.I am a Fellow of both the IET and CIBSE, awarded in recognition of my contribution to the profession.
