About Mark Smith
8 year Air Force veteran with a background of skills in leadership, management, operations, training, and development. During my time in the Air Force I was successful in leading, maintaining, development, and using various metrics in recruiting, aircraft maintenance and program management operations stateside and overseas locations. I transitioned out of the Air Force to run a brand new minor league video department for the Oakland Athletics Professional Baseball Club impacting player development, scouting, baseball systems, and analytics departments. I have 15 years of ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels and building relationships with a diverse staff. Directed and integrated a brand new department into the daily baseball operations including capturing, processing, and review of video and analytical information for 20+ player development coaching staff members. o Operations enabled staff to conduct video/informational sessions, generate advance reports on opposing teams and teach/relay organizational concepts for 140+ players at 7 Minor League affiliates• Initiated, co-produced, instructed and supports new video system workflow for 30 amateur scouts to capture process and post video for visibility and evaluation of amateur players in preparation for Rule 4 draft. • Helped implement and gave input to design of an internal baseball system that focused on game day reporting/evaluation, advance scouting and video review for 150+ minor league players across 7 locations • Contributes to and compiles reports based on strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams and players for A’s Major League bullpen pitching coach in preparation for every Athletics game from 2012 season to present day• Co-developed and guided usage of analytical tools for internal database supporting player development coaching coordinators decisions concerning evaluation and key pitch related indicators
