About Mark Sherman

My current research interests include using bioinformatic and computational biological approaches to screen for novel discoveries such as therapeutic small molecule compounds, RNA, or proteins. I thrive on the pursuit of creative and innovative approaches toward novel drug discoveries and seek opportunities to lead a team (as a Senior/Principal scientist) to explore the unknown and improve patient lives. I am interested in building skill sets in bioinformatics, protein engineering, machine learning, RNA biology, and biochemistry. I bring an innovative mindset to solve complex challenges drawing from over 20 years of experience in the diverse research fields such as- bioinformatics - biochemistry - microbiology - cellular biology - population genetics - marine biologyFurthermore, over 3 years as a college-level lead instructor in Biology has provided me with management, presentation, and communication skillsets that facilitate collaboration and team-building in the workplace.

    Designed platform architecture and coordinated experimental approaches across functions (DNA synthesis, strain evolution, protein purification, HTS, NGS, etc.) toward discovery of novel RNA parts for gene therapy- Designed libraries of protein variants for enhanced virus-like particle production toward large-scale vaccine development- Utilized modern computational tools (Snakemake, Jupyter, AWS, GitLab, Docker, NextFlow, etc.) to mine and incorporate candidate genetic sequences for biochemical- and cell-based screens- Orchestrated interdisciplinary team of computational biologists and experimentalists to design, execute, and analyze multi-omics experiments aimed at detection of candidate genomic variants affecting engineered strain phenotypes- Generated over DNA construct designs aimed at identification of candidate catalytic RNAs/translation regulators - Built self-service computational pipelines to operationalize design and/or analysis of constructs for high-throughput characterization
