   I am a \"Nation Builder\" at Colonial Williamsburg where I perform as a variety of different characters from the past. The position combines history with theater. My responsibilities are bringing history to life by portraying these people from the past in first person, as if I am really these individuals. This combines the teaching of history with theater. Some of the characters that I portray are the Marquis de Lafayette, Napoleon Bonaparte, Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton, Benedict Arnold, General Rochambeau and Captain John Smith. As these characters I perform one man shows that we call \"public audiences.\" I will give a monologue as the character explaining a place and time and then open it up to questions. I also supervise a horse riding program in which we bring the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg to life with equestrian performances such as mounted cavalry demonstrations, talks on travel and transportation and character interpretation from horseback as well as theatrical scenes using horses.
