ABOUT MARK PICKWORTH

Dr. Mark Pickworth is currently an Associate Director at CharmTx leveraging DragonFold to identify novel oncology therapeutics as well as being an integral part of the development team. As Head of Synthetic Chemistry he manages all the CRO activities, including scale up to multi-Kg scale (GMP), and also manages the internal synthetic chemistry team.Mark received his MSci (Hons) from the University of Bristol in 2003 working with Professor Kevin Booker-Milburn on flow chemistry and photochemistry. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Manchester in 2007 working with Professor Jonathan Clayden on stereochemical relay through ureas and oligo-ureas. After his PhD, Mark worked as a Marie Curie Post-Doctoral Research Associate with Professor David MacMillan at Princeton University investigating ketone activation in organocatalysis. He returned to the UK in 2010, also as a Marie Curie Post-Doctoral Research Associate, to work with Professor Richard Taylor at the University of York on Diels-Alder cascade reactions and natural product synthesis.In 2011 Mark moved to Heptares Therapeutics (now Nxera Pharma) as an Industrial Post-Doctoral Researcher and was promoted to Research Scientist in 2012. At the end of 2014 he was promoted to Senior Scientist I and then to Senior Scientist II at the end of 2019. Mark contributed to discovery projects and early stage drug development utilising the novel StaR™ technology for GPCR’s focusing on CNS indications and immuno-oncology. Additionally, Mark contributed to the global effort to fight COVID-19 by leading the chemistry team on the SARS-CoV-2 project.
