Formed in 1906, the Surrey School District currently has the largest student enrolment in British Columbia and is one of the few growing districts in the province. It is governed by a publicly elected board of seven trustees. With an annual budget of $1.3 b (cdn) the district serves the cities of Surrey and White Rock and the rural area of Barnston Island. It is made up of more than 130 schools, including 106 elementary schools, 21 secondary schools, 5 student learning centres, 3 adult education centres, a distributed/online learning program and numerous inter-agency and satellite programs. Over students and staff comprise this diverse and highly successful school district with a common vision to prepare our learners to think, creatively and critically, communicate skillfully, and demonstrate care for self and others.
