About Mark Nielsen
Mark D. Nielsen is Of Counsel in the Corporate & Business Law Department of Day Pitney LLP and a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Columbia Law School. From 2014 to 2026, Nielsen was chief legal officer at Frontier Communications. Among other things, he helped lead Frontier’s $17 billion chapter 11 restructuring that set the stage for the company’s operational turnaround and successful sale to Verizon.From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Nielsen worked for Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, first as Chief Legal Counsel and then as Chief of Staff. As Chief Legal Counsel, he provided advice on legal aspects of policy decisions, drafted legislation and executive orders, and served as the Governor’s principal advisor on judicial appointments. As Chief of Staff, he was responsible for the Administration’s policy and legislative initiatives, as well as overseeing the daily operations of state government.Mr. Nielsen is an honors graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
