ABOUT MARK MURPHY
Mark Murphy has nearly 40 years experience in all lending sectors with multiple partners, across all risk grades. He has particular skills in point-of-sale retail credit. He has built detailed propositions and processes from the ground up and has managed large complex businesses, divisions and multi-disciplinary teams, in good and challenging times.Mark is unusual in having both broad lending and retail experience, enabling him to develop partnerships through a detailed understanding the art of the possible while matching diverse parties to shared objectives in a complex regulatory environment.Mark was instrumental in building the banking, lending and credit business that is now Santander in the UK. He has managed a number of specialist lenders including one of the largest UK finance house as MD of Hitachi’s Consumer Lending Division( now Novuna). He has significant retail experience with a range of posts and assignments in Littlewoods/Very, Sainsburys, Argos, Studio, Frasers, Cazoo, AO, NBrown, and Foschini (South Africa). Mark has consulted with Digital lenders such as PayPal, NewDay and Klarna and helped operations in challenging times such as Omni Capital and BrightHouse. In recent years Mark has, amongst a wide array of transformation activities, led the integration of Sainsburys Bank and Argos Financial Services and introduced credit offerings to AO.As the FCA took over regulatory responsibilities in 2012 Mark was a key point of contact at the Finance and Leasing Association as a main board member and Vice Chair of the Consumer Division. He has significant regulatory experience and has held a number of FCA approved and SMR positions.Mark has extensive skills in proposition development, NPD, product management, financial services, digital transformation, partnership development and turnaround activities. He is a board level executive experienced in dealing with multiple stakeholders while equally happy to roll his sleeves up and find pragmatic solutions.Mark has now withdrawn from the interim and consultancy world and would like a small number of NED positions to which he could add value. Mark has recently taken up the position of NED Chair at SNAP Finance UK.
