About Mark Merges

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE I am a seasoned K–12 and higher education leader with over 30 years of experience building effective schools, coaching current and aspiring administrators, and leading school operations with a student-first mindset. I’ve served as a principal, district leader, and professor, guiding schools through improvement efforts, launching leadership pipelines, and ensuring alignment with instructional, financial, and compliance goals. At Piedmont University, I mentor educators in Georgia’s Tiered Leadership Certification Program and helped launch the Northwest Georgia Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction. I also serve as a leadership coach for Kennesaw State University, supporting candidates pursuing Georgia’s leadership endorsement. Throughout my career, my focus has remained consistent: lead with integrity, invest in people, and build systems that make a difference for students and communities. I’m now seeking opportunities to contribute at a broader level, supporting school systems through innovation, operational leadership, and leadership development. Let’s connect if you’re interested in collaborating, recruiting, or learning more about my work.
