In a second phase of that work, Mark was retained as one of a small group of lawyers assisting with the determination of consequential loss claims.Before that Mark was seconded to HSBC where he was a senior member of the FCA IRHP review team. He determined and communicated the results of complex multi-million pound consequential loss claims in written correspondence, and represented the bank in meetings with customers.During his time at HSBC, Mark was simultaneously instructed to prosecute a multi-million pound fraud on several central and local government agencies, involving over a hundred individuals and complex corporate and charitable structures, and culminating in three multi-handed trials.That trial followed Mark having acted as leading counsel for a major London Borough, successfully prosecuting one of the largest ever frauds (£5.4m) committed against a Local Authority. The 4-week, 2 defendant trial concerned over pages of evidence and Mark advised throughout the charging and evidence-gathering phases, and prosecuted the Proceeds of Crime aspects of the case.Mark is expert in confiscation and restraint under the Proceeds of Crime and Criminal Justice Acts and is an accredited advocacy trainer with Middle Temple and a registered Pupillage supervisor.
