About Mark Hanke

Dr. Hanke is an accomplished scientist (published articles in: Genes & Development; Nature Communications; Journal of Immunology; Infection and Immunity; PLoS Pathogens; Trends in Immunology; Journal of Neuroimmunology; Clinical Science; The Journal of Neuroscience; Brain, Behavior, and Immunity; and Journal of Neuroinflammation) whose immunology experience is considerable and continually expanding. His expert understanding of therapeutic biologics & disease modifying agents in addition to his excellent organizational and communication skills allow him to support a wide variety of therapeutic areas (such as: Immunology, Immuno-Oncology, Rheumatology, Ophthalmology, and Pulmonology) as a Medical Science Liaison with a strong commitment to personal and group success.Brief BiographyAt the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center (Seattle, WA) Dr. Hanke worked with a team of clinical practitioners and researchers to lessen the impact of cancer on human health through translational treatment strategies. Through this laboratory and patient-oriented research he sought to better understand the mechanisms that drive cancer through the interaction between tumor cells and cells of the immune system, in order to elucidate novel therapeutic targets which manipulate the host response towards tumor clearance. Targets of interest included the IL-17 axis and Immune Checkpoints (PD-1 and CTLA-4) with the hope of using antibody based antagonist or related molecules to pre-clinically demonstrate reduced tumor burden during Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. During his PhD research, Dr. Hanke established how neuronal activation, neuroinflammation and microglia activation are increased during the development of steroid resistance in an animal model of social stress. After receiving his PhD, he transitioned into a postdoctoral position at the Center for Staphylococcal Research within the University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha, NE) where he examined the immune response to biofilm infections.
