Recently, I was the Chief Medical Officer for the physician management arm of UHS for the last 5 years. I oversaw employed clinical providers/staff across our UHS ambulatory markets. Additionally, I was responsible for ambulatory quality performance. Over the last few years, I had installed market physician leaders to support local clinical leadership as well as local quality teams to enhance VBC performance, in our drive towards greater risk contracting. I was focused on the delivery of quality medical care in our ambulatory markets, as well as a strong emphasis on patient safety. Development of policies and procedures that increase standardization and reduce variability as far as risk mitigation and compliance are key towards ensuring a safe medical environment for all. Regular market visits and face to face time with our markets, clinics and providers/staff are crucial for building relationships, enhancing communication and effecting positive change. I also dealt regularly with a range of provider issues, review malpractice claims, clinical vetting of new provider applicants (employed or via acquisition) and chair our delegated credentialing committee. Prior to my most recent position, I was regional Medical Director for UPMC Pinnacle. I was involved in all aspects of the clinic system within the region, ranging from oversight of the primary care clinics, some specialty clinics along with closely working with regional hospitals. I participated in a range of quality initiatives, supported the move to a more risk-based system and participate in numerous committees. I actively participated in recruitment activities and provided support for a Family Practice residency.Past work experience involved a Medical Directorship with WellMed Medical Management overseeing multiple clinics with emphasis on population health/quality metrics and value-based care in a full-risk environment. Additional responsibilities included support of the Florida acquisition group with outreach to potential acquisition targets, strategic acquisition analysis and follow-up system integration.
