ABOUT MARK FOX
Mark Fox is obsessed with symbols—both with their form as well as their meaning. He designs trademarks, glyphs, icons, and letterforms, and when he isn’t doing that he teaches, designs agitprop posters, and writes. With his partner and co-author Angie Wang, Mark wrote the visual reference “Symbols: A Handbook for Seeing,” published by The Monacelli Press in 2016. Two review excerpts:“This glorious paperback is the perfect reference guide for artists, designers, and the visually inclined. With more than 400 images from sources as diverse as Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” to Stonehenge, “Symbols” is a crash course in the nature of the collective unconscious and the vocabulary it uses to manifest its ideas.” —Sara Rosen, Crave Online“A compendium to help artists, designers, and curious readers gain more complex understanding of symbolism in the visual arts…. The examples are wonderfully omnivorous.” —Allison Meier, HyperallergicCollectionsCenter for the Study of Political Graphics, Los AngelesDenver Art Museum: The AIGA Design ArchivesDeutsche Plakat Museum, Museum Folkwang, EssenKyoto Design AssociationLetterform Archive, San FranciscoLibrary of Congress, Washington, DCLos Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)Poster Museum at Wilanów, WarsawAdam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature, WarsawMusée des Arts Décoratifs, ParisMuseum für Gestaltung ZürichMuseum für Kunst und Gewerbe HamburgSan Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)Stedelijk Museum, AmsterdamVictoria and Albert Museum (V&A), LondonVisual Arts Foundation: Design of Dissent Collection, Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives, New York
