ABOUT MARK FERGUSON

Currently a Head of Science Faculty at an inspirational and nurturing Grammar School in East Sussex. I am lucky to work with a group of talented and professional practitioners who share a holistic view in terms of the teaching and well being of young students. I passionately believe that all students should be encouraged to strive to achieve their full potential and that, as a teacher, it is my responsibility to scaffold and differentiate the learning environment and curriculum to enable this to happen. I also feel it is vital that students understand the role of Science in the world today and seek to make links to Science and Society. It is important in my role as a teacher that I provide students with motivational authentic learning opportunities to allow them to fully engage and see the importance of their learning. My work as a PADI Scuba Instructor has greatly enhanced my ability to provide students with authentic learning opportunities. I have been very lucky to be involved in roles that allow me to support the development of ICT to facilitate learning in previous schools I have worked. These roles have included whole school positions. Through these roles I have been able to recognise the benefit of the use of technology in education and have also been able to examine and collaborate with others on Digital Literacy initiatives.
