About Mark Cline
After 41 years at Charleston Water System (CWS), I will officially step down as CEO on June 30, 2025. It has been a very rewarding career culminating in my role as CEO for the last 3 years. I look forward to the next chapter of life in retirement and part-time consulting and business development with Hussey Gay Bell. In my former role as CEO at CWS, I lead all corporate initiatives while reporting to and acting with the authority of its Board of Commissioners. My responsibilities also included government and regulatory relations to ensure that the utility met the needs of its customers while maintaining compliance requirements. I started my career with CWS in 1984. I\'ve served in mission-critical roles throughout my tenure including Engineer, Engineering Manager, Plant Engineer, Director of Water Treatment, Director of Design and Construction, Capital Projects Officer, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, and ultimately, I became CEO in August 2022. I am a 1981 graduate of North Carolina State University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. I\'m licensed as a professional engineer and as a water treatment plant operator. I\'m a member of the American Water Works Association where I served on the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2013 and as a vice president from 2012 to 2013. I\'m also a member of the Water Environment Federation and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
