About Mark Claussen
I\'ve been in education for 37 years as a Teacher, Guidance Counselor and most recently as a School Psychologist. I will begin my 30th year with the Norfolk Public Schools in August 2018.I\'ve been the President of Read Aloud Nebraska and Read Aloud Norfolk, two nonprofits that promote the importance of \"reading aloud to children\" and provide resources (e.g. books) to help make it happen, since 2001. Read Aloud Norfolk has provided nearly free, new books to local children in need. Read Aloud Nebraska offers workshops and mini-grants to enhance school and community efforts.I\'m a Life Member of Optimist International and charter member of the Noon Optimist Club of Norfolk. I am a Certified Club Builder and have sponsored nearly 100 members during my 25 years as an Optimist. I am a Christian D. Larson Partner and Honored Benefactor with the Optimist International Foundation. I have served as Club President (4x), Lt. Governor of Zone 4, Governor of the Nebraska District and as Vice President for the Great Plains Region.I\'m the advisor for the Norfolk Panther JOOI (Junior Optimist Octagon International) Clubs in Norfolk, Nebraska, since 2001. These three clubs consist of approximately 100 youth members of Optimist International (grades 5-12) who engage in meaningful service leadership activities throughout the year. The Norfolk Panther JOOI Clubs have been recognized at the local, state and national level for their service and leadership.
