ABOUT MARK CARR

Mark was Group Chief Executive of AB Sugar for 18 years. He retired from this role in December 2022 but has since been retained by the Company as a Strategic Advisor to the group supporting the new Chief Executive, Paul Kenward. During his 18 years as CEO of AB Sugar, Mark oversaw the transformation and diversification from a UK-focused sugar business into the leading, global sugar business it is today. AB Sugar is more than a sugar manufacturer. Our sugar-making plants are highly efficient ‘biorefineries’ which enable us to maximise every part of our raw material received to produce a range of non-sugar products derived from sugar beet and sugar cane, that not only reduces waste, but brings value to our business, to our customers and consumers. Our diverse range of non-sugar products include bioethanol which is produced to mix with petrol. A range of animal feeds, including betaine which is a high value animal feed supplement. Furfural, a renewable chemical and bagasse for making paper and potable alcohol for the beverage industry. We even produce an ingredient for the use in children’s medicine to treat life-threatening forms of epilepsy, to name but a few. We are also a significant renewable power generator, whilst we consume electricity and heat in the sugar making process, we also export significant residual electricity into local grids. Our products are truly sold across a diverse range of industry sectors including food and drink, fuels (food and transport), pharmaceutical, agriculture and horticulture, and energy. Further information on AB Sugar\'s operations can be found at or follow @ABSugarplc.
