About Mark Briney
I’m an operations-focused engineer with a background in completions, production, and supply chain — mostly in oil & gas, but also in manufacturing. Over the last 20+ years, I’ve managed horizontal well programs, led logistics for sand and fuel, and built tools to fix recurring problems in sourcing, inventory, and vendor performance. Most of the roles I’ve held have been focused on helping operations run smoother—with fewer delays, fewer billing issues, and better coordination between teams.I’ve built tools and systems that worked well enough to be picked up by other teams or rolled out companywide. That includes forecasting models to avoid inventory runouts, self-sourcing programs that cut detention costs, and planning tools that helped completions and procurement stay aligned.Key Areas of Focus: Supply Chain & Logistics: Built self-sourcing and forecasting systems that cut demurrage, improved accuracy, and helped avoid vendor disputes and supply chain gaps. Completions: Led 130+ horizontal well completions with an emphasis on drillouts, frac design, and vendor performance; worked across multiple basins on field execution and cost tracking. Production: Improved performance through lift changes, tracer testing, chemical programs, and recompletions; helped shut down or fix wells that were out of compliance or underperforming.I’ve worked for Devon, Antero, Halliburton, Nestlé Purina, and The Patch Logistics—each role giving me a better view of how to keep projects on track and operations moving. I’m comfortable in the field or supporting teams from the office, and I enjoy solving real problems that make the work easier for everyone involved.
Experience
Senior Manager, Sand Sourcing & Logistics
Jul 2022 — Present · Denver, CO, US
In this role, I was brought in to lead and improve the company’s sand sourcing and logistics systems. I developed forecasting and reconciliation tools that helped eliminate billing errors, improved accuracy around sand charges, and gave us more predictable, transparent pricing across our vendors. One of the biggest wins has been improving trust with suppliers. Because our forecasting became the most accurate in the basin, we earned better pricing and stronger partnerships—vendors began to rely on our projections as the standard.I also worked closely with completions, finance, and supply chain teams to close planning gaps and improve how operational data flowed across departments. These refinements reduced delays, improved material flow, and kept our completion schedule on track. At the leadership level, I provide guidance on sourcing strategy, logistics improvements, and vendor performance — pulling from years of field experience to make sure decision-making stays connected to on-the-ground realities.
