About Marjorie Jerez

I am the GIS Program Manager for the National Forests in Florida. Previously, I was the Renewable Resources GIS Specialist on the White River National Forest. In the early part of 2023, I was on a temporary detail as the Acting GIS Specialist for the Data and Analysis Branch under the Information Management Directorate at the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Regional Office (Region 5). Prior to joining the U.S. Forest Service, I worked at two National Park Service units - Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. I\'m currently a qualified Geographic Information Systems Specialist (GISS) and a trainee Infrared Interpreter (IRIN) for wildland fire response. During the summers, I go on wildfire incidents across the country and have been deployed to Colorado, California, Montana, Oregon, and Idaho. My ultimate professional goal is to become a National GIS Coordinator for a land management agency.Outside of my normal day-to-day job, I have a passion for music and performing arts. I am a classically trained pianist (favorite composers include Chopin, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Brahms) and I started learning the cello during my third year of undergrad so that I could participate in the FSU Campus Orchestra for non-majors. I currently play in the cello section of the Big Bend Community Orchestra (a community orchestra based in Tallahassee, FL). I also previously played in Symphony in the Valley (a community orchestra based out of Glenwood Springs, CO). I currently work and have worked in the past as a part-time stage technician. I have had the great pleasure of working with renowned performers and their touring crew. Some of the artists that I have worked with include Wynton Marsalis with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Bernadette Peters, Zakir Hussain, Steve Martin with The Steep Canyon Rangers, Hilary Hahn, and Yo-Yo Ma just to name a few. I have also had the opportunity on being on stage crew for ballets and operas where my roles have ranged from being on deck, rail, spot-op, light board-op, master electrician, sound board-op, and audio engineer.
