ABOUT MARIYAM M.
Hi! I\'m Mariyam Muhammad. I report to the Ohio Connect Team on the latest trends amongst Ohio communities, using SEO, metrics and social tools. My current work can be found in the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Columbus Dispatch, the Akron Beacon-Journal and many other newspapers across Ohio. I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2022 with a dual degree in journalism and international relations. As a journalism student, I was a reporter for The Lantern, OSU\'s college newspaper. At The Lantern, I began as the diversity and inclusion reporter, then I went on staff as one of the special projects editors. I\'m most proud of \"Excluded\", an enterprise project about Islamophobia in sports settings when three students wearing the hijab were targeted on 9/11 at an Ohio State football game. My favorite beats to report on are diversity & inclusion, immigration, religion, and minority communities, and I would love to return to the realm of investigative journalism. As I continue to grow as a storyteller, I want to explore all forms of storytelling and make connections with communities across the nation. Outside the newsroom, I love to read and write fictional stories, capture history and memories with photography, watch my favorite TV shows, travel, and spend time with my family and friends.
