ABOUT MARIYA OTTEN-ANDREW

I am a Transportation Planning Engineer with 25 years of experience spanning Australia, the UK, Ireland and Canada. After over a decade in management, I recently rediscovered my love for technical engineering work and transitioned into the role of Principal Engineer which allows me the luxury of solving complex engineering problems every day. My passion is safe-efficient movement, and I approach all transportation challenges through that lens: expanding active transportation throughout Banff; optimizing arterials to move more people in the same road space with transit priority in Vancouver, Calgary, the Gold Coast and London; determining the most efficient traffic management to support construction of major infrastructure, even when that means closing Canada\'s national highway in the Rockies; and designing communities with a focus on active modes and mixed uses that reduce day to day car use. I am privileged to serve as a member of ITE’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Standing Committee. I am all about active transportation and in a pre-pandemic world when going to the office was a thing, I would cycle / run / walk to and from work most days, year round (yes, even at -30 Celsius). Outside of work, I am an outdoors enthusiast that can usually be found skiing, kiteboarding, mountain biking, hiking, SUP-ing, running or anything else that keeps me moving outside.
