ABOUT MARISSA BROWN

I am currently a Manager in Transportation Planning at Metro on the federal grants team. Prior to this role I spent nearly two years as a Senior Transportation Planner at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 4 Bay Area office as a Strategic Investment Planning Branch Chief. I led grant applications, grant teams, Benefit Cost Analysis development, coordination efforts with local agencies, and letter of support processing. In May 2023 I completed a Master of Science in Transportation Management degree from San José State University. From 20••••23 I worked in the Caltrans HQ Office of Strategic Investment Planning (OSIP). While in OSIP I led successful State and federal discretionary grant program applications and ensured that projects are aligned with state goals and priorities. Before this role in OSIP I spent three years in the Division of Rail and Mass Transit (DRMT) and two years as an Associate Environmental Planner at Caltrans District 4. In DRMT I was a project manager for the Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion Program for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and coordinated closely with Metrolink, Metro, and the California Transportation Commission. I\'ve written high level environmental documents, led Project Development Teams, and worked closely with engineers and environmental units to guide projects towards timely completion.I graduated in June 2017 from the University of California, Davis with a B.S. in Sustainable Environmental Design. As an avid hiker (Mt. Whitney \'15 and John Muir Trail ‘21), nature enthusiast, and an Aggie, I am passionate about transportation, the environment, and urban planning. While attending classes at UC Davis I was an NCAA Division I swimmer. In the 20••••16 season my teammates voted me Team Captain for my leadership skills. My team won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship title three of the years that I was there. After an injury derailed my senior year, I returned for a 5th year of eligibility and was later voted Most Inspirational for the 20••••17 season. I also hold school records in both the and 1,650 yard freestyle. I have a wide range of skills and knowledge, including technical writing, urban planning, sustainable design, and CEQA/NEPA.Please feel free to contact me!
